A Nauseating Attack On A Man Of Unity: In Defense Of Pastor Umo Eno

By Sam Etuk jnr

Gov Umo Eno

As Pastor Umo Eno prepares to formally defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday, June 21, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the relentless attacks on him are nothing short of nauseating. Despite his assurance that he’s reliable and dependent on God for defense, critics are hell-bent on discrediting him.

Governor Eno’s decision to join the APC may stem from a positive reason, as Akwa Ibom State has historically benefited little from national support under the previous party affiliation. Perhaps he believes that aligning with the APC will bring more development projects and opportunities to the state. As he aptly put it, “We’re not joining the APC from a position of weakness, but from a position of strength. We’re bringing value to Akwa Ibom State.”

Critics may question his trustworthiness, but Governor Eno has consistently demonstrated a commitment to the welfare and progress of Akwa Ibom State. His actions and words have always been centered on making promises to the state a reality. In his Christmas address, he preached “unity, progress, and collective service,” extending warm greetings to the people of Akwa Ibom State.

Upon receiving the “Governor of the Year” award, Governor Eno promised to “continue to put in our effort—double and redouble our efforts—towards the development of our State.” This is not the language of a man who is driven by personal interests, but one who is genuinely committed to the development of Akwa Ibom.

As Governor Eno reiterated in his 2025 New Year address, his administration remains committed to inclusivity and development. He has pledged to run an inclusive administration, despite his party affiliation. This is a testament to his dedication to the people of Akwa Ibom, beyond party lines.

In a world where critics are often enemies of progress, Governor Eno stands tall as a leader who is driven by a desire to serve his people. As he prepares to take this significant step, it’s essential to recognize the value he brings to Akwa Ibom State.

The attacks on Governor Eno are not just unwarranted; they’re also a distraction from the real issues that matter to the people of Akwa Ibom. It’s time to focus on the development of the state, rather than engaging in petty politics.

Sadly, it appears that some political leaders may be using hired critics to undermine Governor Eno’s efforts. As someone with no personal relationship with the governor and no affiliation with the government, it’s utterly disappointing and deplorable to see such tactics being employed. If indeed political leaders are behind these criticisms, it’s a shameful act, especially given Governor Eno’s body language of unity and development.

Governor Eno may not be your typical politician who speaks with forked tongue or deceitfully, but at least he has tried as a human to exhibit honesty and integrity. This approach is a disappointing step for traditional politicians who often prioritize self-interest over the welfare of their constituents.

In summary, Governor Umo Eno’s actions demonstrate that the interests of the people are always at the forefront of his mind. His commitment to unity, development, and inclusivity is evident in his words and actions. It’s clear that he is a leader who prioritizes the well-being of Akwa Ibom State above all else.
