In a deliberate effort to sustain the sanitation culture as well as ensure maximum compliance to sanitation order by residents, the Cross River State Government has apprehended defaulters of the State’s Sanitation order during the October edition of the State wide monthly sanitation, warning that no one is above the law.

Talking tough on residents, especially those apprended during the exercise, Commissioner for Ministry of Environment, Moses Osogi, reminded them that nobody is above the law, regardless of their societal and political status, as anyone found flouting the State’s sanitation law will be prosecuted.

Some residents of Calabar Metropolis expressed optimism that the statewide sanitation exercise which has now become part of their lives has helped in checking environmental degradation in the State.

They however called on the State Government to intensify desilting efforts as well as timely evacuation of waste especially during sanitation days to complement the exercise.

Notably, this month’s edition witnessed less vehicular movements while human movement was increasingly high.

The Commissioner assured that all unscrupulous elements as well as their behaviours will be tackled accordingly until the sanitation culture becomes fully acceptable and seamlessly adhered to.
