The Mayor Of Calabar, Apostle (Rt. Hon.) James Anam, alongside the Supervisor for Works of Calabar Municipal Government, Engr. Eso Archibong and key representatives from the Ikot Ishie Clan carried out an inspection of the Ikot Ishie Market in Calabar Municipality which has been earmarked for upgrading.

The inspection was aimed at assessing the suitability of the location and ensuring that the project aligns with the Administration’s vision for enhancing the State’s market infrastructure.

The Mayor expressed satisfaction with the site’s potential, noting its proximity to major roads and amenities. He however identified areas that require improvement, and directed the Supervisor for Works to ensure that the Market’s entrance and exit points are designed to accommodate a high volume of customers and traders.

He advised representatives of Ikot Ishie Clan to work with the Supervisor for Works to develop a comprehensive parking and transportation plan, including designated parking areas and drop-off points.

The Council Chairman also emphasized the need for the market to be designed with environmental sustainability in mind, incorporating features such as solar panels, rainwater harvesting systems and waste management facilities.

The Mayor disclosed that the Project’s timeline and budget will be reviewed and adjusted where necessary to ensure its successful completion.

According to him, once completed, the Ikot Ishie Market is poised to enhance trade and offer a modern, well organised space for both merchants and customers, making a significant contribution to the State’s economic growth.

The inspection marks a significant milestone in the market expansion project, and will ensure that the new market meets the highest standards of accessibility, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.
