Chief Ebri, Others Honoured At Commissioning Of Revitalize State Newspaper

The renovated and refurbished Cross River Newspaper Corporation was officially commissioned today by His Excellency, Prince Bassey Otu, the Governor of Cross River State, accompanied by top government officials including the minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi. In a landmark event that brought together prominent personalities, media professionals, government officials, and other distinguished guests to the state.

Prominent sons from within and outside the state were Honoured. His Excellency, Chief Dr. Clement Ebri, former Governor of Cross River State, received the Diamond Guest of Honour at the occasion, in recognition of his outstanding contributions and enduring service to the state.

The occasion which was witnessed by the  Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, as well as Mr. Ray Ekpu, a pioneer senior journalist with Chronicle and also co-founder of Newswatch, Other distinguished dignitaries were equally recognized with Awards of Excellence and Participation.

Chief Dr. Clement Ebri received special commendation for his selfless contributions toward the revival and repositioning of the Chronicle newspaper, an important institution in the media history of Cross River State.

The immediate past Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dr. Erasmus Ekpang,who handled the project, said the project had created jobs for 30 ad-hoc staff at the Printing Press and 25 permanent staff at the Newspaper Corporation.

He revealed that the complex would also house a full-fledged event centre, expanding the Information Hub into a wider communication and commerce ecosystem.

He acknowledged contractors Davanla Nigeria Limited, Darienze Nigeria Limited and Mefiko Nigeria Limited for delivering the project.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Pastor Ekpenyong Ene Cobham, described the commissioning as a historic milestone toward self-reliance.

The  renovation and refurbishing of the state Newspaper Corporation – Chronicle, under the leadership of Governor Senator Prince Bassey Otu is a significant step toward strengthening journalism, preserving the state’s history, promoting public information, and giving Cross Riverians a stronger voice.

It was indeed a historic occasion celebrating leadership, service, journalism, and the enduring legacy of Cross River State.
