Distinguished Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong turns 41 today and already the various timbres are producing unique harmonics foretelling a day sweetly poised to produce a stirring real time scorecard and fun filled convivialities . And why not, by the way?
At an age when most young men are still wrestling to plant a foothold in life, Suki seems to have already arrived twice over – in learning, working and in providing leadership.
And as if in obeisance to the promptings of the English poet, Alexander Pope, that
“a little learning is a dangerous thing,
drink deep or taste not the Peirian spring,
there shallow droughts intoxicate the brain,
And drinking largely sobers us again”,
Suki has enrolled in school again, in Cambridge, to deepen his leadership potentials, that are already abundant in his general corpus as a lad – become – man.
Or indeed he listened to Rumi, the great one, who reminded us that
“we were born with wings, why prefer to crawl through life.”
Has Suki been airborne, flying through his 41 years of living? I leave you to hazard the answer, even as I believe that the Ayes will carry the diadem on celebration day.
People like Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong are the reason why hope for the youths of our nation remains afloat. He cut through his rookie days in the Senate as if with surgical blade and settled down rapidly in the red chamber as though it was his natural habitat.
His educational scholarships and empowerment schemes have been intentional and truly authentic in a way that promises long – term growth and economic emancipation for a good many of his constituents who are willing to push harder on the concourse of life.
Working alongside Governor Bassey Otu, and listening to his wise counsel, Suki has ripened into a consumate law maker with broad enough shoulders to soak in some of the weight that would naturally redound upon a Senator of the federal republic.
Take your flowers, Senator Suki, and the cake and icing thereof, because you have quite frankly earned all of it, and more. Happy glorious birthday, Distinguished.
