Democracy Is Dead With One Party, NDC Blasts Sen Orji Kalu

Political News • 4/23/2026

By Lawrence Mpama

The opposition Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has come heavily on Sen Orji  uzor Kalu over the statement he made to newsmen at the National Assembly Complex regarding the parlour state of our economy and the position of opposition party in the country.

The opposition NDC, blasted the Senator representating Abia North, stating that his convoluted comments regarding the state of the nation as well as the politcal realities of the opposition parties in Nigeria was a figment of his personal imagination.

It asserted that the NDC view such statement with indignation and hereby issues rebuttal to the politcal agents allied to the powers in the Presidency who gave a press briefing.

NDC wishes to confirm to Nigerians that the momentum of the politcal bulwak being formed by the opposition in the country will eventually defeat the ruling behemoth that seeks to kill democracy through state capture weaponizing of poverty, and stifling of the opposition.

The NDC therefore describes the praises and pass marks heaped on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic policies by the Abia-born politician as unreflective of the truth staring Nigerians in the face. Our party wishes to advise the Senator, who is a known personal friend of Mr President, to learn to speak truth to power for the sake of posterity and the daunting challanges being faced by Nigerians due to insecurity and failed economic and fiscal policies.

As a party that means well for our dear nation, the NDC takes exception to the convoluted, contrived and spurious press statements credited to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in which he apparently goofed by presuming politcal a feigned politcal acceptance of the APC by Nigerians, and declaring the opposition parties in Nigeria as dead and buried. Our party is even more amused and by his propaganda that Mr President and the ruling party have no challenger in next year’s general elections.

The opposition parties in the country are not dead but silently busy consulting leaders of thought on the best strategy to build up a politcal bulwark to whose collective momentum will lead to the decisive and abrupt ouster of the APC led Federal Goverment. In the same breathe, we are actively sensitising and mobilising Nigerians from all walks of life tin order o dismantle the artificial political barriers erected against the oppositon parties in Nigeria by the Presidency and the now besieged INEC in their obvious desperation to deny the long-suffering Nigerians the legally sanctioned party platforms to democratically topple the APC-led fascist government.

We also want Nigerians, who are now more politically vigilant and discerning than ever, to dicountenace any ridiculous, illogical and barefaced fallacies and propaganda by agents of the ruling party against the truly parlous state of the nation’s economy, infrastructure and security, especially the opposition politcal parties which they have plotted to destroy since the very day they gained power.

On the economy, for which the NDC described President Tinubu’s performance as dismal, grime and poor, the party challenged the Senator and his likes to produce the economic performance indices or the economic growth metrics on which they have benchmarked Mr President’s performance.

To further expose the lies, half-truths and misrepresentation of facts by the Senator, we want him or any other politician and/or technocrats manning the nation’s MDAs to produce the economic performance metrics, indicators or indices by which they have ostentibly pretended to lend credence to imaginary growth in the nation’s economy.

For clarity and for the purpose of educating Senator Kalu and his politcal co-propagandists, our party hereby reels out tbe fundamental economic indicators whose grime and somber outlook, most Nigerian economist believe, have killed the nation’s economy to a degree where it would be difficult to reverse or salvage it. The Nation’s GDP, as shown shown by availabile statistics, has stunted rather than grown over the years due to zero Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), a situation which smacks of curiosity on the part of Nigerians and shame on the part of the politicians who are running the country around.

To make matters worse, the ruling party and government have continued to lose touch with reality as the economy further nosedives due to a combination of factors that worsen it such as mass exodus critical campanies and shutdown of production factories due to epileptic power supply, low exports, high imports, high bank interest rates, high inflation rate, high unemployment rate, high rate of government Debt to GDP, unfavrourable balance of trade, insecurity, etc”. Unfortunately, the hapless citizens of Nigeria are left to bear the brunt of the rudderless economy as it adds another layer to the nation’s problems of insecurity, multi-dimentional poverty, “japa syndrome” /brain drain, youth restiveness, etc.

Given the above undisputable and unassailable facts about the economy and the politcal situation in the country, the NDC wishes to remind the Senator to fear God while in power, develop a modicum of human conscience and speak truth to power for the sake of posterity rather than pander to politcal partisanship in the face of inexcusable failure. Finally, we remind him and his co-travelers that the imperative of laying good political legacy outweighs the ephemeral gains of wealth, fame and power in the name of party politics.
