Federal pensioners under the Contributory Pensions Scheme whose monthly pension is below forty thousand naira are to benefit from free medical services.

The scheme, introduced by the Pensions Commission, PENCOM, is designed to assist pensioners in addressing their health needs and alleviate health challenges.

This was announced in a statement to mark the 7th anniversary of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Contributory Pensions Scheme Sector, jointly signed by the Enugu State Coordinator of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Contributory Pensions Scheme, Engr Comrade Timothy Ade Oyewande and the acting Public Relations Officer, Elder Comrade Ngwuoke Ngwuoke.

They commended the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu Administration and outlined how CPS pensioners have benefited from the scheme.

These include the payment of pension arrears to some of the pensioners last year and regular payment of pension entitlements.

“We hereby wish to inform all federal pensioners under the Contributory Pensions Scheme, CPS, that a branch of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Contributory Pensions Scheme Sector is now operational in Enugu State.

“The association came into existence to address the numerous anomalies confronting CPS pensioners in the country.
In the past, the meagre amount appropriated to pensioners were hardly released, and CPS pensioners were denied the right to any pension increase by the federal government.

“Today, with the birth of Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Contributory Pensions Scheme Sector under the leadership of Comrade Sylva C. Nwaiwu, the narrative has changed for good.

“Today, many members of this Union can attest to the fact that the 2025 Christmas celebration was different from previous years because of the payment of pensions arrears that changed their lives. Today, some of our members who were owed many months of their pension now enjoy regular payments. Today, some categories of pensioners will start enjoying free medical services.

“It is against this background that we announce that the Enugu State Chapter of the association has come on stream just like many state chapters in the country.

“All federal government pensioners in Enugu State are hereby encouraged to register with the chapter so that they can join their colleagues nationwide to enjoy fully the benefits of their service to their father land.
