I met my good friend, Nick Ayuwa in 2002, shortly after I came to work in Calabar, even though I remember seeing him around Malabo Republic in the mid- Eighties. He was the Liaison Officer in Lagos, which was a more important Cross River outpost than Abuja then. Maybe because the governor went to Lagos more often than Abuja.
Nick was both a looker, and a dresser. Debonair, spick and span all the time. Ofcourse you had to look antiseptic clean to cut any ice with Donald Duke. Gabe Onah, Bassey Usoh (Boysie) Nick Ayuwa, Totsman Etoti (now late) and a few others who worked directly with the governor then, were expected to be in such speckles mould all the time.
Nick would go on to serve successfully
as Chairman of Obubra local government area, remained a staunch party man, until Governor Ben Ayade brought the state to the APC. Nick stayed back in the PDP and backed Senator Gershom Bassey for governor in 2023.
The good news is that over the weekend, he joined the APC with thousands of his supporters from PDP, ADC and NDC, taking a staunch resolve to work for the success of Governor Bassey Otu and all the candidates of the Party in the forthcoming general elections. The very colourful ceremony was attended by the State Chairman of the Party, Rt. Hon. Chris Etta and the state working committee of the Party, Chairman of Obubra, Hon. Kingsley Arikpo and Mrs Blessing Egbara, House of Representatives candidate of the Party. The House of Assembly candidates, Ritchie Romanus and Ernest Jones Obase, leader of APC in the local government area, Chief Alex Irek, Chief Ernest Irek, Bishop Chris Obase, Elder John Agbor, Hon. Agbor Mgbongha, Chief Julius Mbina and other leaders of Obubra were also in attendance.
Ayuwa said he is coming to the party because of the governor’s impressive performance in strategic infrastructure recovery and consolidation. Nicholas Ayuwa famously attracted the world class JENNIFER ETUH HOSPITAL to Cross River State through his personal friendship with Mr Thomas Etuh from Kogi state.
