There was a political pilgrimage of sorts on Good Friday, April 18, as the All Peoples Congress grassroot politicians converged on Effraya, headquarters of Etung local government area for a strategic conversation with the senator representing Cross River Central, Jones Eteng Williams.
Selected delegates from Ikom, Boki and Etung local government areas were welcomed into his palatial country home, by Prince Ebuta Ojong who was the convener of the meeting. He explained that the purpose of the meeting was to provide the opportunity for a frank conversation between the senator and the people about their assessment of his representation so far.
It was a no-holds-barred interaction as the people and the senator fine-tuned their strategic interests and pressing needs going forward. Senator Williams told the gathering “I want to be a better politician,
I need to learn from the masters, that is why I have come to you. I have heard your advice, and I will return back to the drawing table to re-strategise on how to deliver the representation you want and richly deserve.”
Although no formal communique was issued at the end of the meeting, the convener summed up the resolve of the people of Old Ikom “to stand by our senator and at the proper time, with the leadership of the party, we shall do the needful to send him back to the Senate come 2027.”
Senator Williams, obviously elated at the quality of the conversation said, “Today is one of my happiest days since I became senator. I will do everything that is required to meet your needs and aspirations going forward.”
