Cross River Felicitates Muslims on Eid-el-Kabir, Urges Peaceful Coexistence

The Cross River State Government has congratulated Muslim faithful across the world, particularly those resident in the state, on the occasion of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, urging them to sustain the virtues of sacrifice, tolerance, love, and peaceful coexistence.

In a press statement dated 26 May, 2026, and signed by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Erasmus Ekpang, the government described Eid-el-Kabir, also known as Eid-el-Adha, as the biggest religious festival in Islam and a significant reminder of total submission and obedience to the will of Allah.

The statement noted that the celebration commemorates Allah’s instruction to Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, Ismail, as an act of faith and devotion, stressing that the festival symbolizes sacrifice, steadfast belief, humility, and complete allegiance to God.

According to the government, Muslims should use the occasion to reflect on the exemplary life of Prophet Ibrahim by embracing good character, kindness, patience, perseverance, and devotion to Allah.

The state government further urged Muslim faithful to continue to live peacefully with adherents of other religions, emphasizing that religious tolerance and mutual respect remain critical to sustaining peace and unity in society.

“For us as a state, government is particularly impressed with the cordial relationship between Muslims and members of other faiths, which has contributed immensely to the progressive peace and tranquility across Cross River State,” the statement read.

The government called on residents to uphold the spirit of love, kindness, and peaceful coexistence in order to preserve the unity and harmony currently enjoyed in the state and the country at large.

It also used the occasion to appreciate Muslims in Cross River State for their continued support and solidarity with the Governor Bassey Otu-led administration.

The statement reaffirmed the commitment of the “People First” administration of Governor Bassey Otu to improving the wellbeing of residents and advancing development across all sectors of the state.

The government further advised residents to celebrate the festive period with moderation, decorum, and consideration for the prevailing economic realities in the country.

It equally cautioned against all forms of uncharitable behaviour capable of undermining the cherished values, character, and peaceful nature of the people of Cross River State.

The statement concluded by wishing Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration while extending the government’s heartfelt congratulations to the Muslim Ummah.
