A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Sunny Jackson Udoh, has urged political actors in his federal constituency to uphold continuity and respect long-standing party understandings established during the party’s national convention in Abuja.
Udoh, a prominent member of the ruling party and businessman, made this position known while responding to the evolving political discourse across media platforms and newspapers concerning alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“I find the ongoing discourse quite engaging, particularly the renewed enthusiasm among young people to participate meaningfully in the political space. In earlier times, many were relegated to peripheral roles, often associated with electoral misconduct, instead of being fully integrated into the system. I became politically active in my early 30s, so I understand the implications of excluding young people from the process.”
He explained that within his senatorial district, earlier practices that limited representation to a single term have since been changed, a development that has considerably strengthened the district’s influence in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
According to him, continuity enhances legislative depth, positioning representatives to attain ranking status and exert greater institutional influence.
He further advocated that a similar gesture should be extended to the member representing the federal constituency, Hon. Paul Ekpo.
“Such a structured progression allows these legislators to consolidate experience, mature in legislative responsibility, and represent the constituency with greater authority. It ensures they are not merely present in the chambers, but are influential contributors.”
The former member of the Cross River State House of Assembly (1983) emphasized that political arrangements must be deliberate and strategic instead of arbitrary, warning that disjointed approaches ultimately undermine the collective interest of the constituency, while calling on stakeholders to remain committed to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic framework.
